Karunanidhi death Live: 2 dead and 33 injured in scuffle and stampede outside Rajaji Hall

Chennai:  At least two people killed and 40 others were injured in a stampede at Chennai's Rajaji Hall, where the DMK patriarch Karunanidhi's mortal remains has been kept for people to pay last respect. The chaos outside the Rajaji Hall had speeded, where people throng to say goodbye to their beloved Kalaignar, police had to resort to lathi-charge to maintain law and order.

The 94-year-old Karunanidhi passed away at a Kauvery hospital Chennai at 6.10 PM on the evening of August 7. The tallest leader of Tamil politics had largely stayed out of public life since 2016 when he underwent a surgery.

His body was clad in the tricolour and encased in a glass coffin has kept at Rajaji Hall where a political spectrum, dignitaries from all walks of life, including President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Congress president Rahul Gandhi have paid their last respects.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor P. Sathasivam, and Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala paid last respect to the DMK Chief at RajajiHall.

Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao paid tribute to M Karunanidhi at RajajiHall.
