Srinagar: A Court in Kashmir has issued a non-bailable warrant against Jitendra Narayan Tyagi (formerly named Waseem Rizvi) for allegedly making controversial statements against Muslims and Islam. Last year, former Chairman of the UP Shia Waqf Board Waseem Rizvi changed his religion to Hinduism and changed his name.

Earlier also, in this case, the court had issued summons to the accused, asking him to appear before it and immediately respond to the allegations made against him in the complaint. However, he did not appear in court. "In view of the facts and circumstances of the present case, a prima facie case is made out against the accused under sections 153A, 295A, 505 of the IPC," the Kashmir court said, adding that Jitendra Tyagi has also been the chairman of the UP Shia Waqf Board for a long time.

According to the complainant, Danish Hasan Dar, a resident of Srinagar, "The accused left Islam of his own free will and willingness and converted to Hinduism, but while talking to the media after the conversion, he made controversial statements about Islam, which hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims." The court will now hear the matter next on June 3.
