Srinagar: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Wednesday informed the Upper House of Parliament that around 610 Kashmiri migrants have been repatriated their properties following militancy that spread across Jammu and Kashmir in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Nityanand Rai also informed that 3,000 government jobs have been arranged for Kashmiri migrants under the Pradhan Mantri Vikas Package-2015 by spending Rs 1,080 crore.

The Union Minister further said that the Jammu and Kashmir government has appointed 1,739 migrants under the package and with this, 1,098 migrants have been elected. In a written reply to a question, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs said that, as per the information furnished by the Jammu and Kashmir government, the lands of 610 migrant applicants have been given back to them in the last five years.

The reply given by the ministry states that under the Jammu and Kashmir Migrants Real Estate Act, 1997, the District Officers (DMs) of the concerned district in Jammu and Kashmir are the legal custodians of the immovable properties of the migrants. The district officer has the right to take all steps to protect such properties.
