Srinagar: People's Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti has demanded the release of Kashmiri students arrested from a college in Agra immediately. In fact, these students were arrested for allegedly posting a 'WhatsApp status' praising Pakistan players after their win against India in the T20 World Cup match.

A police official said students of Raja Balwant Singh Management Technical Campus in Agra, UP, were arrested after registering an FIR against them at Jagdishpura police station on Wednesday evening. Now, against the arrest, Mehbooba Mufti tweeted that the crackdown on Kashmiri students inside and outside Jammu and Kashmir is condemnable. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir after two years of repression should be an eye-opener for the Government of India and lead to curriculum reforms.

Mehbooba has demanded that these students be released immediately. Mehbooba also tagged a media report quoting Agra College officials claiming that no anti-national slogans were raised on the campus. The report also claimed that college officials had allegedly complained against BJP workers for "pressurising them."
