PeeCee’s abrupt exit happened days before the film went on floors, which made the situation even more critical. Priyanka Chopra took everyone by surprise when she walked out of Bharat at the eleventh hour leaving the team in lurch. However, Katrina Kaif proved no less than a blessing as she stepped in to fill Priyanka’s post. While fans assumed that Katrina had taken up the project purely on the basis of her relationship with Salman Khan and director Ali Abbas Zafar, the actress, in an interview, shared that it was a professional decision.

Katrina quipped “Ali and I are good friends, but when it comes to work, we are completely honest with each other. I read the script from start to finish in three hours and immediately called him to tell him that I loved it. I realised there was an opportunity of going the extra mile with this character. So, it had nothing to do with my friendship with Salman or Ali. In fact, Salman did not even call me after I signed the film. We met directly on the set,”  .

Bharat, an official adaptation of the 2014 South Korean drama Ode To My Father, is the sixth collaboration between Katrina and Salman. Talking about working with the superstar, Katrina said, “We share a comfort level, which has developed over the years. He loves to entertain the audience. He is a simple person in real life, and he approaches his films the way he approaches life.”

Katrina’s last two outings, Thugs Of Hindostan and Zero, failed to work their magic at the box-office. In the latter though, her portrayal of an alcoholic superstar garnered much appreciation. “Right now, all my energy is focussed towards work, and when such appreciation comes your way, it feels good. The credit goes to Aanand sir (Aanand L Rai, filmmaker) who told me to trust him and helped me overcome my fears,” the actress said.
