After playing the villain and hero in many movies, veteran Sathyaraj is now one of the most wanted supporting actors, and he is busy starring in multiple projects in Tamil and Telugu. The actor was last seen on screen in the Aishwarya Rajesh starrer Kanaa where he played a doting dad. The latest hot buzz in the industry is that veteran actor Sathyaraj is in talks to play an important role in maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s historical magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’.

If sources are to be believed, he will be playing the chief commander of Chola Kingdom. While initially Telugu actor Mohan Babu was speculated to play Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, it has now been said that Sathyaraj will play the role. An official announcement is yet to be made on this project. In the past few years, one role that had given Sathyaraj huge recognition and worldwide acclaim happen to be Kattappa character in SS Rajamouli's Baahubali series, and this role of the slave commander made the actor a phenomenon, winning positive responses.

The Chekka Chivantha Vaanam director is also in talks with ‘Jayam’ Ravi, Karthi, Vikram, Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara, Aishwarya Rai, Mohan Babu and Amitabh Bachchan to essay pivotal characters. The rehearsal and pre-production work will begin in August but the full-fledged shoot will only begin later this year
