HYDERABAD: On Wednesday, K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), the chief minister of Telangana, will formally inaugurate the second phase of the state's "Kanti Velugu" eye screening programme.

According to official sources, 1,500 special teams have been constituted for the efficient operation of the initiative, and around 15 lakh glasses have already been distributed to all Primary Health Centers and metropolitan centres.

On Monday, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari held a teleconference with the district Collectors and requested that they make sure that the coveted programme was effectively carried out in accordance with Rao's instructions. An official statement on Monday stated that she urged the District Collectors to conduct more eye screenings during this round of the "Kanti Velugu" programme in order to surpass the state's previous record set during the first round in 2018.

The government's flagship programme should be promoted among all households, according to the Chief Secretary's directives, and efforts should be made to offer the public high-quality services, she said.
