New Delhi: Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal government will soon issue guidelines on Diwali firecrackers. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, only green crackers will be allowed to be sold and procured in Delhi. According to the information, the Apex court had banned the use of polluting firecrackers to control air pollution in 2018 and allowed the sale of green firecrackers only.

Gopal Rai further said that a guideline is being prepared for sale and purchase of green crackers only in Delhi. Soon we will issue instructions to the concerned departments. Green crackers do not spread pollution like traditional firecrackers and particles like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide are about 30% less. The National Institute of Environmental Engineering Research (CSIR) was tasked to develop 'green crackers', but only a few types of crackers were present in the market last year due to licence requirements.

Gopal Rai also said that the process of restructuring the Ridge Management Board (RMB) has begun. The RMB is a high-powered body formed in 1995 on the direction of the apex court, which stretches over 7,784 hectares to protect the city's greenery. Its approval is mandatory before doing any development activity in the ridge area.
