Kochi: A joke for four employees at the Kerala Marriage Registrar's Office proved costly when he refused to give his marriage certificate to a person and said that he would get a certificate once he married again. State Registration Minister, Mr. Sudhakaran has suspended all four employees of his department with immediate effect for "misbehaviour and dereliction of duty".

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Sudhakaran said that when he came to know about the man, he could not bear the "nonsense" and ordered an immediate suspension. Madhusudan went to the sub-registrar's office in Mukkum in Kozhikode and sought a certificate after 16 years of getting married. The employees first ridiculed him and then cut him off to the office for several days, while the documents should have been made available on the same day as the insistence.

"Madhusudan married on February 27, 2003 in accordance with the provisions of the Special Marriage Act. He required his certificate on June 19 and urged for a verified copy of his marriage certificate. "Instead of providing marriage certificates, the authorities mocked him," the minister said. Sudhakaran said the staff asked him to remarry so that he could not see the old records and issue a marriage certificate soon.
