Madarsa's ulema rapes 11-year-old, sentenced 20-year jail

Kochi: Ulema of a madrasa in Kasargod, Kerala, has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for sexual assault. Abdul Hanif Madhani, a 41-year-old Ulema, was accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy. Sessions Court Judge TK Nirmal pronounced the sentence while convicting Abdul Haneef.

Public prosecutor for POCSO cases Prakash Amany said he has been sentenced to 20 years under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and 10 years under Section 377 of the IPC. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Abdul. If the amount of the fine is not given, his sentence will be extended by 12 months. According to the government lawyer, the accused sexually abused the victim child several times. The last time he did this was on 31 May 2016. After this, a complaint was filed against him at Ambalathara police station. But he was released on the vine. The court recently found him guilty, after which he was arrested.

A similar case came from Hyderabad in 2018. Six minors were sexually assaulted by a madrassa cleric there. He was arrested after a complaint from his parents. Police had said that the maulvi is accused of raping children between the ages of 10 and 12. A case was registered against him following the complaint.
