An Air India Express flight made an emergency landing at Kozhikode in Kerala on Friday after a fire warning was sounded in the cargo compartment. The pilots detected a fire alarm from the cargo bay and decided to make a precautionary landing at the Kozhikode international airport in Kerala.

"An Air India Express flight made a precautionary landing at Kozhikode today after pilots detected fire alarm from cargo. With 17 passengers on-board, the flight was scheduled for Calicut-Kuwait," said Air India Express spokesperson.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and can be seen next to the aeroplane. No injuries to those on-board or damage to the aircraft has been reported as of yet. This is a developing story.

Earlier in January this year, an alternative master plan was submitted to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of the Calicut airport.

Drafted by Kozhikode MP MK Raghavan, this master plan was sent to AAI chairman Arvind Singh in the aftermath of the August 7 incident last year when an Air India Express aircraft crash-landed at the table-top runway of the Kozhikode airport also known as the Calicut airport.
