"War Cry": Kerala Chief Minister On Amit Shah's Hindi Diwas Tweet

Kochi: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday attacked Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that Hindi is the national language of India. He said that this is a new battlefield in the name of language. Pinarayi Vijayan posted on Facebook that 'Despite the country's opposition, Union Home Minister Amit Shah's emphasis on Hindi agenda should be seen as a sign of the Sangh Parivar to start a new battlefield in the name of a language.

He further wrote that the notion that only Hindi can unify the country is completely wrong. The people of the South and North-East do not speak Hindi. Significantly, Amit Shah had tweeted on Hindi Day that he said, 'Many languages and dialects of India are our greatest strength. But there should be a language of the country so that foreign languages do not dominate our country, so our Constitution makers unanimously accepted Hindi as the official language.

Following this tweet, protests started in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Responding to Shah's tweet, MK Stalin said that "this is India, not Hindi." Stalin gave a stern warning to the Central Government that if Hindi was imposed as a national language, it would affect the unity of the country.
