THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress will launch a new radio channel namely 'Jai Ho', for airing the party's political viewpoints in the southern state. A decision to this regard was taken during the w-day brainstorming session or 'Chintan Shivir' of the Congress party.
The channel will go live on August 15 to commemorate the country's 75th anniversary of independence. The Congress has also resolved to reintroduce political groups that have left the United Democratic Front (UDF), which it leads. The party wants to bring back the Kerala Congress (Mani), which was a major constituent of the UDF for decades before departing a few years ago.
Kerala Congress (Mani) is now a member of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), with a cabinet position and a Rajya Sabha seat. Kerala Congress also has a top whip in the LDF.
Kerala Congress (Mani) leader and former MLA Stephen George, on the other hand, said, "The Congress should at the very least explain why we were kicked out of the UDF. We are now a substantial component of the Left Democratic Front, and we cannot commit to returning to the Congress-led UDF at this time." During the two-day brainstorming session, Congress also unveiled its 'Mission 2024' in preparation for the 2024 general elections.
As part of the mission, the party has asked its cadres to reach out to society's backward classes and bring them into the fold of Congress. The party has also opted to cut links with 'Twenty 20', a political party launched by the industrial conglomerate Kitex that ran for a few Assembly seats in the 2021 Assembly elections.
