Kerala considers Anganwadi reforms, including raising worker and helper wages

Thiruvananthapuram: The pay out of workers and helpers at rural child-care centres (anganwadis) in Kerala will be increased by Rs 500 to 1,000. Minister for Health, Family Welfare, Women and Child Development Veena George announced this the other day in the Legislative Assembly.

The hike will be Rs 500 for those who have served for less than 10 years and Rs 1,000 for those who have served for more than 10 years. An anganwadi worker will receive Rs 12,000 and a helper Rs 8,000 as a result of the increase.

 In response to a calling attention motion introduced by Congress MLA P C Vishnunath, the minister stated that the salary increase was announced in the previous state budget. She stated that she would meet with union representatives to discuss reforming the service and pay conditions. It would be investigated whether promotion could be granted based on departmental tests. She suggested that the government rename the designation 'worker' to 'teacher.' said, Veena George.
