Kochi: Kerala Higher Education Minister K. T. Jaleel (KT Jaleel) is about to return the copies of the Quran to the UAE Consulate, embroiled in the gold smuggling case. Announcing the return of the copies of Quran on Wednesday, K.T. Jalil said that this decision is painful, but it needs to be done. In fact, nearly 1,000 Quranic copies were handed over by the consulate to Jalil to be distributed to mosques and Islamic institutions, which are now kept at Edappal and Alathiyur.
Jalil further said that, 'If I distribute the copies of Quran now, then various investigative agencies can also interrogate the recipients, and I will return the copies of Quran to the consulate to save them from such problems.' He said, 'I give great respect to the holy scriptures including the Quran. However, politicians and media outlets have termed the distribution of copies of the Quran illegal. I cannot distribute them in mosques or educational institutions because of this.
Let us inform that Jalil has been accused of violating the FCRA in obtaining copies of the Quran from the UAE through diplomatic channels. ED officials have already questioned Jalil in this case. During the interrogation of the investigating agency, he had admitted that he had received the consignment of Quran from the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Thiruvananthapuram. Following Jaleel's confession, the opposition alleged that the gold was imported using the cover of the Quran.
