Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was admitted to a private hospital at Neyyattinkara near Thiruvananthapuram on Monday after he showed fever and chest infection symptoms.

Oommen Chandy's son Chandy Oommen saud in his Facebook post that he was diagnosed with a slight beginning of pneumonia and admitted to the hospital due to a high fever.

Health minister Veena George also visited him today morning.

The 79-year-old senior politician was recuperating at his home after going  to Germany for specialised cancer treatment.

Oommen  Chandy, who appeared exhausted and struggled to talk, was compelled to use social media to debunk rumours that his family had refused to treat him.

After a close relative claimed that Oommen  Chandy's children and wife had denied him medical attention, His medical condition and therapy came under public scrutiny.

His son, the Congress leader Chandy Oommen, used his father's testimony as evidence and accused the media of spreading "unfounded rumours." On his Facebook page, he also discussed his father's condition and medical care, describing the hurt the accusation had caused the family.

Some of Oommen  Chandy's relatives, despite Mr. Oommen's request, however petitioned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to intervene on their behalf so that the veteran statesman might receive the required care. They requested the Chief Minister to constitute a medical team to evaluate Oommen Chandy’s health.
