PALAKKAD: A tourist bus travelling with students from Mulanthuruthy in Ernakulam struck a KSRTC bus at Vadakkancherry in Palakkad, killing 9 people, including five students.  12 badly injured patients have been admitted to the Government Medical College in Thrissur. 

The tourist bus was carrying 41 students from Baselios Vidyanikethan Senior Secondary School, Mulanthuruthy, on a field trip to Ooty. The tourist bus in Vadakkancherry rammed the Kottarakkara-Coimbatore rapid bus from behind on Wednesday around midnight.

Early accounts claim that the tourist bus's driver lost control while travelling at a high rate of speed and smashed into the back of the KSRTC car. The accident's cause was put at the feet of the tourist bus driver, said transport minister Antony Raju.

Jomon, the missing driver of the tourist bus, surrendered at the Vadakkencherry police station in Palakkad. He asserted that he was thrown off the bus and fell to the ground outside during the collision. Later, after becoming hurt, he was transferred to a hospital.

It is known that Jomon, the bus's unfortunate driver, was spotted at the scene of the collision but later went missing. No one with the last name of Jomon has been admitted to the hospital. 

According to the preliminary inquiry report, the collision was caused by speeding. The tourist bus was moving at 97.7 kmph at the moment of the collision, according to GPS data. The report has been provided to the Transport Commissioner by Palakkad Enforcement RTO.

The tourist bus transporting 42 students and five instructors from Mar Baselius Vidyaniketan School, Mulanturutti in Ernakulam, to Ooty collided with a KSRTC bus before flipping over into the marsh and causing the catastrophe. Five children, a teacher, and three KSRTC passengers were among the nine dead. There were a total of 60 injuries. Four patients are in serious condition.

K Rajan, the state's minister of revenue, declared that the government would compensate the accident victims. He told the reporters in Thiruvananthapuram that the decision would be made after consulting with the chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan. He promised that steps will be taken to stop similar mishaps in the future.
