Kerala flood situation: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu condoles loss of lives

New Delhi: Vice President  M Venkaiah  Naidu on Monday condoled the loss of lives due to floods in South Kerala saying that the state and the Central governments are doing their best to provide relief to the affected people.

Sharing deep concern over the Twitter handle, Vice president wrote: "Deeply distressed by the loss of lives due to floods in Kerala. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the safety of those affected by floods. I am sure, the State and Central governments are doing their best to provide relief and comfort to the affected people."  

Heavy rains miserably hit Kerala compelling the authorities to issue a red alert in five districts while seven districts are given an orange alert and two districts are under yellow alert. It is reported that as many as 14 districts in the state are experiencing heavy rains. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of more rains for the coming days also.

The death toll due to the heavy rains and landslides in Kerala climbed to 21, according to the State's Information and Public Relations Department on Sunday. Personnel from the 3 defence forces, the Army, Navy and the Air Force, have been deployed into service for rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the state.  Meanwhile, the IMD forecast that the intense spell of rainfall activity over Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is likely to reduce from today.
