Tarang Chandola, a social activist who leveraged the Internet to propel the public to help during the disastrous floods in Kerala in 2018, impacting thousands of lives.

Tarang used internet activism to facilitate this movement with the help of his partner Omprakash Patel ,via their company, Dekhbai Digihub Private Limited.

Dekhbhai, founded by Ommy was the First Non Celeb Instagram page to cross 1 million followers. The thought was simple; during any calamity, amidst the chaos, one needs to take leadership to provide a structure and organised system.

Tarang and his friend based in Kochi, Nivu, realised the immediate need to get faster access to resources.

Tarang spoke with logistics companies and coaxed them into collaborating with them. Jet Airways agreed to take multiple shipments several times a day through their cargo unit.

Croma collaborated to setup a chain of donation camps so that people across Mumbai could have easy access to drop off points.

Jack and jones came forward with a huge donation of 680kg; 1000 blankets and 500 mats.

A fundraiser was of utmost importance at the time, as every small drop would help fill this ocean.

Tarang and Nivu created a video explaining and showcasing the work they were doing and promoted the same across social media channels. It helped him garner massive support and many volunteered to help.

He needed a team to arrange for the commute, transportation and distribution of material across Kerala and not just Kochi alone.

Gokul and Nivu setup a team to provide the required ground support in Kerala.Tarang used his management/marketing skills and micromanaged focussed whatsapp groups which brought together individuals who connected on the same focussed route to help streamline their process even further.

They reached NGOs who had independently collected relief material and were struggling with transport. He also urged corporates to encourage employees to donate a days salary towards their fundraiser.

Through their network, celebrities such as Malaika Arora Khan, Raftaar, Remo D’Souza, Sonnalli Seygall, Elnaaz Norouzi and Siddharth Nigam, joined the movement.

Tarang says “There is never a single creditor in such a situation, rather a collective action of numerous individuals who join hands in an organised and purposeful movement. All that is genuinely required is a clear direction to work towards, and that’s where I come in, identifying loopholes and providing leadership as per the need of the situation.”
