Kerala forced 14.5% fat tax on Junk Food

On Friday, Finance Minister Dr. T.M. Thomas Issac presented the maiden budget of the CPI(M)-led LDF Government in Kerala, gives thrust on strengthening social welfare schemes, public health and education and proposes, inter alia, a slew new taxes on packed foods. 

Finance minister Dr. Thomas also proclaimed that transgenders in the state who have achieved 60 years of age will get monthly pension. He however did not specify the quantum of the pension.The minister said the aim of this proposal is to bring the marginalised to the forefront of the soceity.
