Kochi: Suspended IAS officer M. Shivshankar has been questioned for nearly 5 hours on Saturday by the Enforcement Directorate, which is investigating the matter from where the goods came and went in the Kerala gold smuggling case. Sources have told in this regard that Shivshankar was summoned in the office of the Enforcement Directorate in the afternoon and the questioning continued till late evening.
A day before Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's suspended principal secretary Shivshankar was summoned for questioning, the investigating agency had written to the special court that he (IAS officer) was already aware that the main accused in the case, Swapna Suresh Honesty is doubtful and he needs to be questioned further in this case. The investigating agency, which has taken custody of Suresh, has told the special court on Friday that Suresh has claimed that he had great influence in the CM office.
ED said that when Suresh was asked the question, he disclosed about his close relationship with Shivshankar. The agency has also told the court that between 17 October 2018 and 21 October 2018, when Kerala officials were seeking assistance from Indians in the UAE for flood relief, Suresh and Shivshankar had a meeting. According to official sources, the ED has already questioned Shivshankar. Apart from this, other agencies have also questioned him.
