New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court has on Monday rejected the bail plea of Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case. The special court has rejected the bail plea of Swapna Suresh, considering the evidence presented by the NIA.

Since November, this evidence was collected by the investigating agency regarding the alleged role of the woman in smuggling gold worth more than Rs 100 crore through the diplomatic channel. The NIA strongly opposed the bail plea, saying a thorough investigation was needed in the case. The NIA has stated that prima facie evidence is that the accused deliberately did the act which is directly in violation of Section 15 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Swapna Suresh has alleged in her petition that she has been implicated in this crime without any basis on mere imagination and that the case is of political rivalry between the state and the central government, which was ignited by the media.
