Kerala gold smuggling: Former IAS officer M Shivshankar suspended, NIA questioned

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior IAS officer M. Sivasankar is being questioned by the National Investigation Agency officer here in Kerala's famous gold smuggling case. Sources have told about this time that notice was issued to Shivshankar and the investigating agency summoned him on Thursday evening. Shortly after, the former IT secretary was present at the Perurakada Police Club located here.

M Shivshankar was removed from the post of Information Technology Secretary and Principal Secretary to CM Pinarai Vijayan and subsequently suspended after he was exposed to close links with some people involved in the Kerala Gold smuggling case. Customs officers investigating the case were also questioned by senior officer Shivshankar for about 9 hours, which continued till July 15. On July 5, customs officials seized more than 30 kilograms of gold worth more than fifteen crore rupees.

Let us tell you that the committee investigating the gold smuggling case has said that it was Shivshankar who recommended Swapna Suresh to be the Operations Manager in the Space Park project under the Information Technology Infrastructure Limited of the state. The main accused in the Gold Smuggling case is Swapna Suresh. The 2-member committee is investigating this case. The investigation committee consists of Chief Secretary Vishwas Mehta and Additional Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. At the same time, senior IAS officer M Shivshankar was suspended after investigating this committee.
