Thiruvananthapuram: On Tuesday, the Kerala government has given a compensation of Rs 1.30 crore to former Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientist Nambi Narayanan. The scientist was implicated in the wrong case of espionage in the year 1994. This compensation has been cited in the link of disposal of a case filed by 78-year-old Nambi Narayanan to raise money in a court here to counter his illegal arrest and harassment.

Sources in the CM office have confirmed the payment of the amount to Narayanan in a discussion with the media. The government had earlier given Narayanan an amount of fifty lakh rupees 3 weeks after the order of the Supreme Court. The National Human Rights Commission had recommended a separate compensation of ten lakhs to the scientist. In the year 1994, in the wrong case of espionage, it was alleged that Narayanan was involved in transferring some highly confidential documents related to the country's space planning to foreign countries. He had to spend 2 months in jail. Subsequently, the CBI said that the allegations against him were false. Before the CBI, the Kerala Police was investigating this case.

In the ISRO espionage case of 1994, Narayanan was arrested along with his senior officer, 2 women of Maldives and 1 businessman. The CBI gave Narayanan a clean chit in the year 1995. After this, he waged a legal battle against the accused officers. But, no action has been taken against any officer so far in this case.
