Kochi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has put a stop to a controversial appointment at Kannur University. In fact, it is alleged that the rules have been flouted in the appointment of Priya Varghese, wife of KK Ragesh, private secretary to CM Pinarayi Vijayan, to the post of Associate Professor in the Malayalam Department.

The order said that Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has stayed the further action in the selection process for appointment as Chancellor of Kannur University till further orders. The post was for an Associate Professor in the Department of Malayalam. He said, 'I am the Chancellor of Universities. Therefore, during my time there will be no favouritism and nepotism in these universities and I will not allow it.' According to media reports, the interview for the recruitment was held in November, just before the extension of the tenure of the vice chancellor. In this, Priya Varghese was given the first rank even after being in the sixth and last place, after which her appointment has been mired in controversy.

It is being told that the appointment of Priya Varghese with First Rank to the post of Associate Professor in the Malayalam Department had created a controversy when the teachers' unions concerned alleged that the appointment was biased. The RTI reply confirmed the allegation that Priya, the wife of Private Secretary KK Ragesh, was the worst performer in research among the six shortlisted candidates, but Priya was given the first rank using a political grip. Among the candidates, Priya secured the highest marks in the interview. He got 32 marks out of 50. His score in Research was 156, which is the lowest among the six shortlisted candidates for the post. At the same time, the candidate who got the second rank secured 30 marks in the interview, while 651 marks in research.

At the same time, Priya Varghese, wife of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan's private secretary KK Ragesh, has dismissed all the allegations levelled against her. He said that no rule has been violated in his appointment as Associate Professor at Kannur University. Priya Varghese had said in a Facebook post on August 15 that the reports that other candidates have secured more marks than her for an appointment to the post are false. Priya's husband KK Ragesh is a former Rajya Sabha member.
