Kerala Govt likely to Rejig portfolios of CPI-M ministers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government of Kerala  is considering reshuffling a few CPI-M minister's portfolios with Education Minister V.Sivankutty, trapped in legal bind over vandalising the state Assembly in 2015, likely to step down, sources close to the development said.

According sources, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is handing Sivankutty a crucial party position, causing a reorganisation of portfolios, to enable his dignified resignation.

Sivankutty's successor as a minister would be CPI-M politician V. Joy, who represents the Varkala assembly constituency.

According to a person in the know, Sivankutty and five other prominent figures have been requested to appear in court on September 14 in relation to the case, when their charge sheet will be read out.

Therefore, it is very likely that Sivankutty will submit his resignation later this month, Joy would be sworn in, and a few current CPI-M ministers' portfolios would change as a result.

P. Rajeev, VN Vasavan, MV Govindan, PA Mohammed Riyas, Veena George, and K  Radhakrishnan are among the ministers who might see a slight change in their current portfolios.
