Corona: Kerala govt announces complete lockdown after 3-day exemption on Bakrid

Thiruvananthapuram: A complete lockdown has been announced in Kerala in view of the rapidly increasing number of corona infection cases. However, the entire lockdown has only been placed on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th July. According to guidelines issued by the Kerala government, there will be a complete lockdown with guidelines issued on July 24 and 25 (Saturday and Sunday) on June 12 and 13, 2021.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said the covid-19 restrictions in the state will continue for another week as the average check transition rate is still above 10 percent. CM Vijayan's statement comes at a time when the Supreme Court had termed the state government's decision to relax lockdown restrictions in high-rate areas of infection before Bakrid as unfair.

The apex court had reprimanded the Kerala government for relaxing the restrictions to celebrate Bakrid in the state amidst the corona situation. The Supreme Court had said that it was shocking that the Kerala government had accepted the demand of traders to relax the lockdown rules. The Supreme Court had slammed the Kerala government for relaxing before Bakrid under pressure from traders saying it was not pardonable.
