Kerala government gives reservation to Nadar Christian community in OBC quota

Kochi: The Pinarayi Vijayan government of Kerala has made a big announcement to give reservation under Nadar Christian community under the OBC quota before the assembly elections. According to the information given in the official release, a decision in this regard has been taken in the cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The cabinet gave its approval to accept the recommendation of the Backward Classes Commission. After this decision of the leftist government of the state, all the factions of Nadar community will be included in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. This decision of the Vijayan government is expected to benefit 5 lakh people of the Nadar community, most of whom live in South Kerala. The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) has welcomed the state government's decision.

Hindus, South Indian United Church (SIUC) and Latin Catholics come under reservation under separate list. The Nadar community of Malankara, Lutheran and Marathoma churches will now fall into the abusive category, which was a demand of the community for a long time.
