Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government began the "No To Drugs" awareness campaign on Thursday. According to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the campaign's objective is to make the state free of destructive contrabands.
Not even a second can be lost in the fight against the dangerous chemical, the CM urged, as the tremendous danger it poses to society is beyond words. He urged people from all areas of life to join the drive.
The one-month campaign was launched by the Chief Minister's address, which was broadcast on the state-owned educational channel KITE- VICTERS and shown in schools in the southern state while he was away on a European tour.
The Chief Minister said that he would want to speak to the kids as their grandfather and their parents' brother rather than just as the Chief Minister. Vijayan described the new drive as a multi-pronged action plan and claimed it will bolster existing anti-drug campaigns that are already in place in the state.
Making Kerala a drug-free state is the goal. Anyhow, we have to prevail in this conflict. Many people would believe it to be impossible. However, we'll make it happen," he said.
The CM went on to say that the state should develop a culture that views drug producers, distributors, and sellers as anti-social and anti-national forces. He said that in view of the new approaches being developed to combat addiction, public participation was crucial.
Along with political parties, he also urged religious organisations, socio-cultural groups, students, young people, resident associations, local clubs, Kudumbashree campaigners, and actors to join the extensive campaign.
