Kochi: Upholding the life sentence of 10 accused in the case of waging war against India and recruiting terrorists by setting up camps in Kashmir, the Kerala High Court has made a very important observation on Islamic fundamentalists. The court pointed out that those who think that Pakistan is the right place for them to understand that nothing wrong has ever happened to them in India.

The court, while commenting on the fundamentalists, said that if people with radical and aggressive views look at the history of India since the partition, they will feel that the situation on the other side of the fence (in Pakistan) is not as good as they are sitting on the other side of the fence. Justices K Vinod Chandran and C Jayachandran, during the hearing of the case, said that even during the conflict with Pakistan, there have been no incidents of hostage-taking of Muslims after partition in Hindu-majority India. It may be recalled that in 2013, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) court arrested some of the accused from Kerala and sentenced them to life imprisonment in a case of recruiting terrorists against India. The Kerala high court on Monday heard the matter and upheld the sentence of 10 persons, including the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Prepared, Tadiantwede Nazir. But 3 were acquitted. It is said that Nazir was the Kerala commander of the terror outfit.

During the hearing, the court appreciated the commitment of Nia and Kerala police to nab the terrorists. The prosecution told the court that the accused were recruited from Kerala only on religious grounds. Later, they were sent to Pakistan so that they could get training there and create terror in India. Three of them were killed in an encounter with the Indian Army, while one had confessed to the recruitment. Justice Vinod Chandran said in his order, "In the desire for such a paradise, which is found only by killing human beings and killing the citizens of the country, five people have travelled to such paradise on earth, now whether they are enjoying paradise there or not, it is a question. But they have made life hell for their families who are drowning in shame and suffering.''
