Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Media Academy has announced its media awards for the year 2019. mathrubhumi.com sub editor Nileena Atholi won the N.N. Sathyavrathan Award for the best human interest story. Her article series titled ‘Sakshara Keralathile Bharthru Balalsamghangal”, published in the Mathrubhumi newspaper was selected for the award.
The Moorkkannur Narayanan award for best local reporting was bagged by R. Anoop of Mathrubhumi’s Nemom bureau. His article titled “Vellayanikkayaline Kakkam”, which detailed the environmental issues faced by Vellayani lake, was selected for the award. The award consists of a purse of Rs 25,000, a memento and certificate.
Also, Metro Vaartha Chief Photographer Manu Shelley won the Kerala Media Academy's best news photography award 2019. The award-winning picture was published on June 22, 2019. Jury members Shaji N Karun, B Jayachandran and Dr Nina Prasad said the award was given for capturing the natural reaction of the veteran revolutionary KR Gouri
Other awards: Best editorial – K. Harikrishnan (Malayala Manorama), Best investigative report – Richard Joseph (Deepika), Best news photography (consolation prize) – Deepa Prasad (Times of India), Best visual media journalist – Sunil Baby (Media One). Moreover, Sarath Chandran (News 18) and Saniyo (Asianet) received special mention from the jury.
