Kerala: Protests erupt at Sabarimala temple media persons injured

SABARIMALA: Protests and minor conflicts were reported from the well-known Sabarimala Temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa in Kerala on Tuesday in which some media persons were hurt.

As per reports, a photo-journalist was injured after protesting devotees targeted media persons at the Sabarimala temple this morning means on Tuesday.

According to news agency ANI , a cameraman named Biju associated with the Amrita TV was injured during protests at the Sabarimala temple over the entrance of a woman devotee.

The protests erupted after hundreds of protesters thronged at Sannidhanam resisted a woman devotee, believed to be in the menstrual age, from incoming the temple dedicated to the celibate god.

The police tried to talk into the protesters that the woman is 52 and had come to the temple with her son. The two were booked and taken to the police station. 

The Sabarimala place of pilgrimage opened on Monday for the second time in three weeks for a two-day special puja in the midst of unprecedented security over the fear of protests by those opposing the Supreme Court's verdict allowing women of all age groups into the temple.

The gates of the temple will be opened again on Tuesday for the "Sree Chitira Atta Thirunal" puja to observe the birth anniversary of the last king of the princely state of Travancore Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma.
