Kerala: Sabarimala temple reopens for Makaravilakku

Kerala: The Sabarimala Ayappa temple reopened on Friday for the Makaravilakku festival. On Friday, December 31, the Sabarimala Temple's Devaswam board spokesman said, "Heavy rush was seen today in Sabarimala due to the festival."

Makaravilakku is an annual festival held on Makara Sankranti in Kerala, India at the shrine of Sabarimala. The festival includes the Thiruvabharanam procession and a congregation at the hill shrine of Sabarimala.

According to temple sources, the temple opened on December 30 evening and worshipers can now visit the alter starting today. The Sabarimala temple was previously closed after the Mandala puja on December 26, 2021. After the Makaravilakku event on January 19, it will close.

The historic Erumeli to Sabarimala woodland trail, which passes via Karimala, has reopened to pilgrims as of this morning. Pilgrims are allowed to go in groups through the woodland trail, which takes them through the Periyar Tiger Reserve for roughly 18 kilometres.
