NEW DELHI: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi today to seek special financial aid for the Wayanad landslide disaster. The meeting, scheduled for 10:30 am, is pivotal as Kerala pushes for urgent assistance to address the devastating impact of the landslide.

This meeting marks the first official interaction between the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister since the Modi-led government assumed office for the third time. Kerala has already requested an initial sum of Rs 900 crore to aid in recovery efforts for the disaster-struck region.

Kerala has estimated the total damage from the landslide at Rs 2,000 crore. Additional documentation detailing the destruction across various affected areas will be provided during the discussion. The Chief Minister will also brief the Prime Minister on the current situation in Wayanad.

During a previous visit to the disaster-affected areas, the Prime Minister had assured Kerala that the Centre would offer comprehensive support for relief and rehabilitation efforts. Although disaster management funds were released, no special package has been announced yet, making today's meeting crucial.

So far, 231 bodies and 217 body parts have been recovered from the landslide-hit areas. Of these, 176 identified bodies have been handed over to the families of the victims.
