Kochi: Youth Congress activists are protesting outside the Chief Minister's residence in Thiruvananthapuram in the case of gold smuggling. The police have used a water canon to disperse the activists. Youth Congress workers protesting are demanding CM Pinarayi Vijayan's resignation over the involvement of former Chief Secretary M Shivshankar in the case.

It is noteworthy that on Wednesday, former Chief Secretary of Kerala CMO M Shivshankar was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Kerala gold smuggling case. Today, Shiv Shankar will be presented in the court. In fact, the Kerala High Court turned down interim bail pleas of suspended Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer M Sivashankar in a gold-smuggling case after which the Enforcement Directorate (ED) took him to custody.

A team of ED officials reached 'Ayurveda Hospital' and took him to custody. Former Principal Secretary of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan was undergoing treatment there. Shivshankar was taken to Ernakulam in a car. Earlier, two interim bail petitions of Shivshankar were rejected by the court on Wednesday.
