Kerala's first press photographer and filmmaker Sivan passes away

Noted photographer and filmmaker Sivan has passed away. Yes, Sivan passed away today i.e. He was 89 years old and his death has been reported by his family sources. Filmmakers Sangeet Sivan, Santosh Sivan, and Sanjeev Sivan are his sons. On the other hand, noted film director Sangeet Sivan wrote on Facebook, "You all have to be informed with great sorrow that my father Sivan breathed his last today.''

 

 

Sivan also has a daughter named Sarita Rajiv. In 1959, at Thiruvananthapuram Statue Junction, Sivan established 'Sivan Studios,' a very popular and famous centre for cultural affairs. Sivan was the first press photographer from Kerala and had clicked pictures for the classic Malayalam film 'Chemmeen' released in 1965. He directed 'Abhayam' in 1991 and won the National Award for Best Child Film.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, Assembly Speaker MB Rajesh, and other leaders have condoled the passing away of Sivan. You can see, Chief Minister Vijayan has written in his condolence message, "Sivan was an eminent name in the film industry because of his cinematography talent.'' On the other hand, Assembly Speaker MB Rajesh said, "Being the first press photographer of Thiruvananthapuram, he captured many historical moments on his camera.''
