'Khaki Wali Sakhi' is playing an important role in providing justice to women victims of domestic violence. In addition, the Chamba police has enacted a Standing Order Procedure (SOP) to prevent domestic violence cases. Data has been prepared for complaints of domestic violence at the district headquarters. It is updated every month. After resolving the matter, the complainant is spoken to in 15 days and an update is taken in Male. If the matter is not resolved, it is sent to the SHO for investigation. The same Police Department has implemented this by creating SOP in May 2019.
With this, 4 murders, 23 suicides and 35 cases of cruelty to women have been registered against husbands or in-laws in the district in the last 5 years. These cases of violence against women begin as small incidents of habitual torture at home. A mechanism has been put in place to prevent incidents of domestic violence. Under this, women complainant meets the complainant on mobile or in person for 15 days. After talking to the complainant, prepares a report. A WhatsApp group has also been formed to oversee the case. In case of domestic violence found in the same police report, the concerned SHO is referred for action.
Also, in cases where complainants are free from domestic violence (DVF) for 6 consecutive months, their names were removed from the list. Till the year 2019, 461 such complainants were monitored in the district. 91 names have so far been removed from the list. Superintendent of Police Dr. Monica said that the police are following up on domestic violence cases. In cases of domestic violence, the victim is called from time to time and visits the house of the female accused to assess the situation. The process lasts for six months. The domestic violence victim's name is removed from the list if everything is found correct.
