New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament will begin on December 7. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge had tendered his resignation even before Sonia Gandhi could contest for the post of Congress president. Kharge, who was the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha, had resigned to contest the election of the party's national president, following the principle set by the One Person One Post Udaipur Sankalp Camp.

Kharge had submitted his resignation to the then-working president Sonia Gandhi, but the resignation has not yet been sent to the Chairman of the Upper House. The Congress Parliamentary Party's Strategy Committee will meet tomorrow at the party headquarters under the leadership of Party Parliamentary Party leader Sonia Gandhi to chalk out a strategy to corner the government in the Parliament session. As soon as the buzz of the selection of the leader of the opposition started, north Indian leaders started staking their claim for the post. Names of South Indian MPs like senior leaders P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, and KC Venugopal are coming forward for the post.

At the same time, north Indian leaders Digvijay Singh, Rajiv Shukla, and Pramod Tiwari are also in this race, but those close to these leaders argue that the highest post of the Congress organization is occupied by Kharge of Karnataka, followed by Venugopal of Kerala in the second most important post of organization general secretary, both of them come from south India. Not only this, but Rahul Gandhi is also an MP from the Wayanad seat of Kerala. Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury comes from West Bengal. Youth Congress president Srinivas is also from south India. Now it is up to Sonia Gandhi to decide whether she retains the status quo i.e. Kharge as leader of the opposition or according to one person, one post, someone new is given this responsibility.
