New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday expressed deep emotions following a 'parivarvaad' (nepotism) statement made by BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari during a parliamentary session. Kharge urged Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to expunge the remarks from the House's records, highlighting his political journey.

In a solemn tone, Kharge conveyed his distress over the BJP MP's comments and mentioned he did not "wish to live for long in this environment." Following the presentation of listed papers in the House, Kharge pointed out that Tiwari had alluded to his political career and insinuated that his entire family was involved in  politics. "He made a comment regarding 'parivarvaad.' I request that this be expunged from the records," Kharge stated.

Kharge, emphasizing that he was a first-generation politician, detailed his political journey which began after joining the Congress party. He mentioned his father had passed away at the age of 85. Responding to Kharge, Chairman Dhankhar wished him a longer life than his father's. However, Kharge, still affected by the remark, replied, "I felt bad. I don't wish to live for long in this environment."

Chairman Dhankhar, who had been presiding when Tiwari made his remarks, assured Kharge that he did not believe the BJP MP intended any harm. Nonetheless, Dhankhar committed to closely examining the records. "Every member of Parliament is respected, and Kharge Ji's life has been in public service for almost six decades. I have said this many times and there are many respected members here too. Any word that hurts Kharge Ji will not remain on record," said Chairman Dhankhar.
