BHOPAL: Hosts Madhya Pradesh (MP) has extended their golden run at the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2022, with 4 more golds on day 4, to add to the four they had won on day 3 and remain among the top two in the medal standings.

With a total of seven gold, five silver, and six bronze medals won on Day 4, national sporting giant Maharashtra (two-time KIYG champions)rose to the top of the medal standings with eight gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals. They beat the hosts, who had three silvers but the same number of golds, by that margin.

Gautami Bhanot, 16, of Jabalpur, who last year represented India at the Asian Airgun Championships in Korea and recently performed well in the national selection trials, was one of the four gold medal winners for MP. She took first place in the Girls 10m Air Rifle competition at the M.P. Shooting Academy range in Bhopal, defeating Maharashtra's Isha Anil Taksale 16-14 in the championship match.

Satyarth Patel, who triumphed in the Boys 10m Air Rifle event, and Oinam Binita Chanu, who won two golds in the Girls K-1 500m and the Girls K-2 500m events in Kayaking & Canoeing, were among MP's other gold medalists.

In reality, there was a rare dead heat in the Girls K-1 race, and Oinam and Pukhrambam Roji Devi of Odisha won a gold medal each. With six gold and three silver medals, MP has taken the top spot in the watersports rankings as a result of their efforts.

Maharashtra leads the pack with a seven-gold day. Cycling and Yogasana were the two events in which Maharashtra essentially swept the championships. They took home 12 medals in all, including four of each colour in Yogasana and four, including three gold, at the Delhi Cycling Velodrome.

The hosts won two of the three gold medals available in shooting, Satyarth Patel and Gautami Bhanot taking home the silver and bronze. In the Boys 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Olympic event, Sameer of Haryana, who had previously won a junior silver medal for India at the global championships, took first place, leading a 1-2 Haryana finish.
