Kia India said on Wednesday that its February sales increased by 8.5% year on year to 18,121 units. In February 2021, the carmaker delivered 16,702 cars to dealers.

The company said it continues to remain one of the top five selling car manufacturers in the country, owing to the consistent performance of its products in the Indian market. With 6,575 units sold, Seltos remained the leading contributor to Kia's overall sales, followed by Sonet and Carnival with 6,154 and 283 units sold, respectively. Carens dispatches stood at 5,109 units as of mid-February.

"We are excited to reach new heights and expand our position in India with the launch of Carens. We want to cut wait times for all of our models as a result of the newly started third shift at our Anantapur plant "Myung-Sik Sohn, Kia India's Chief Sales Officer, stated.

However, the semiconductor scarcity continues to be a source of concern for the firm, as it is for the rest of the world's manufacturers, he added "From Q2 onwards, we are hopeful for some improvement in supply-chain constraints," Sohn added. In India, the manufacturer has recently launched the third shift and plans to build more than 3 lakh cars this fiscal year.
