USA: To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the country's armed forces' founding, Kim Jong Un oversaw a significant military parade that featured some of his most cutting-edge equipment, according to state media on Thursday.

According to the official Korean Central News Agency, the parade, which took place on February 8 in Pyongyang's main Kim Il Sung Square, featured fireworks, military bands, and uniformed soldiers marching in unison to spell out "2.8" and "75."

Kim Il Sung, the founder of North Korea, also liked to dress in this manner, and he attended the parade with his wife Ri Sol Ju and daughter Ju Ae, as evidenced by images from state media.

Images showed the top commander saluting as troops and missile units passed by while standing flanked by his top generals and inspecting rows of soldiers brandishing bayonets.

The nuclear-armed nation holds military parades to commemorate significant occasions and holidays. These parades are closely watched by observers for signs of the regime's development of its outlawed ballistic and nuclear weapons.
According to KCNA, columns of missiles, including a "tactical nuclear operation unit" that displayed its "mighty war deterrence and counterattack capabilities," were paraded through the square.

According to KCNA, which uses North Korea's official name, the parade demonstrated "the transformative development of the DPRK's national defence capability and the country's greatest nuclear attack capability."
The parade highlighted the nation's capacity to defeat its adversaries "nuke for nuke, confrontation for confrontation," according to KCNA.
At 10:05 p.m. (1305 GMT) on Wednesday, Maxar Technologies' commercial satellite captured images of a sizable North Korean flag and throngs of people gathered in Kim Il Sung Square.

Kim has three children with wife Ri, according to Seoul's spy agency, but Pyongyang's state media has never mentioned them. In November of last year, however, Kim unveiled Ju Ae at an intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

Since then, the 10-year-old has made numerous high-profile appearances with her father, most recently at a banquet on Tuesday to commemorate the army's founding anniversary.

According to analysts, she is comparable to a North Korean "princess," and her father's frequent appearances with her may be a sign that she is his chosen successor. Because he most closely resembled Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Il's own father chose Kim Jong Un to succeed him.

The parade takes place after North Korea, which had a record-breaking year of weapons tests, including the launch of its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, pledged to increase and intensify military exercises to ensure its readiness for war. Kim recently demanded that Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal be expanded "exponentially," including by mass-producing tactical nukes and creating new missiles for nuke counterstrikes.
