SEOUL: In his letter of congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Moscow's important national holiday, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed his willingness to forge closer strategic ties with that country, according to Pyongyang's state media on Monday.

According to the North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim declared that friendly relations with Russia are a "precious strategic asset" and that his nation will work tirelessly to foster these cooperative connections in a statement given in honour of Russia Day.

Russia Day is observed today,  June 12, to commemorate the adoption of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic's Declaration of State Sovereignty in 1990.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the acronym for the North's official name, was reaffirmed by the leader as "his willingness to strive for closer strategic cooperation between the DPRK and Russia," using the acronym of the North's full name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Kim said, the fight by the Russian people against attempts by hostile forces to rob Moscow of its security and sovereignty has entered a "new decisive phase" and his people are offering "full support and solidarity" for Russia, the KCNA noted.

According to Kim's message, the North would continue to help Russia in its conflict with Ukraine. Despite widespread criticism of the conflict from the outside world, the North has been deepening its ties to Russia amid claims that Pyongyang has given Moscow weapons to use in the conflict.

Russia Day is celebrated on June 12th each year, marking an important milestone in the history of the Russian Federation. This national holiday commemorates the declaration of sovereignty of the Russian Federation in 1990. It symbolizes the country's journey towards independence and the establishment of a democratic government.

On this day, Russians come together to celebrate their rich cultural heritage, diverse traditions, and the achievements of their nation. Festivities include parades, concerts, fireworks, and various cultural events that showcase the vibrant spirit of Russia. It is a day of unity, patriotism, and reflection, as citizens reflect on their shared history and look towards the future with hope and optimism. Russia Day serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of the Russian people, as they continue to strive for progress, prosperity, and harmony.
