Abu Dhabi: World Cup 2019 winning captain Eoin Morgan's first match in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) as captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has suffered a defeat by 8 wickets with Mumbai Indians (MI). Dinesh Karthik left the captaincy of the team on Friday, after which Morgan was given the command of the team.

While batting first, Kolkata somehow scored 148 runs while losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. Mumbai, chasing the target, achieved it by losing 2 wickets in 16.5 overs. After the match, Morgan said that his team was not even in the match. Morgan said, 'We were not even in the race today. We finally made a score so that we could fight, but the way Mumbai started, it was very difficult to stop them. Their number-4, 5 and 6 are very experienced.'

Responding to the question of sending Kartik before himself, Morgan said, 'We want to try our best while watching the matches. Today it did not make much difference'. Dinesh Kartik could not do any good in this match as well, while Morgan scored 39 runs in 29 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes.
