KOLKATA: A Calcutta High Court division bench on Monday accepted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) demanding a CBI investigation into the murder of playback singer KK.
Advocate Rabishankar Chattopadhyay had filed an application with the Calcutta High Court, requesting a CBI investigation into KK's death. The PIL was admitted by a division bench of the High Court on Monday afternoon, consisting of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj.
Petitioner Rabishankar Chattopadhyay contended in his appeal that there was complete mismanagement at Nazrul Manch on that fateful evening, and that the local administration's incompetence was one of the causes of the turmoil. As a result, the finer aspects of negligence behind the mismanagement must be identified, and a CBI investigation is required, according to the PIL.
KK died on May 31 in Kolkata after playing at Gurudas College's annual college carnival at Nazrul Manch in South Kolkata. Several claims of mismanagement were made at the site during the event, which had more than doubled the auditorium's seating capacity. In truth, KK had expressed his unease several times during his performance.
