New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday upheld the constitutional validity of PM Modi lead Centre government flagship Aadhaar scheme proposing with some modifications.

The Top court's five-judge Constitution bench chaired by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said Aadhaar will be mandatory for taking benefit from government schemes. The top court has struck down compulsory linking of the biometric identification card with various other services.

SC has nullified Section 57 of Aadhaar Act . It used to permit private entities to avail Aadhaar data and ruled that Aadhaar authentication data cannot be stored for more than six months.

- Aadhaar is mandatory for PAN linking

- It is required for filing ITRs

- Top Court's judgment made it mandatory to link PAN card and tax filings to Aadhaar. 

- Aadhaar is required for availing government welfare services like PDS

- Not necessary for Central Board of Secondary Examination(CBSE), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for medical entrance and the University Grants Commission.

- Not obligatory for school admissions

- Aadhaar not required for opening a bank account

- Not necessary to get  New mobile SIM card

- Private entities are no longer allowed to use Aadhaar for verification purposes.

- Aadhar is not obligatory for new mobile phone connections

- Aadhaar is also not required for financial services like PPF, NSE
