The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy rainfall in Mumbai and Konkan regions till June 12. In fact, a deep-depression was formed over the southeast Arabian Sea, which has now turned into a fierce storm. This cyclonic storm has been named Biparjoy Storm. This storm will affect the upcoming monsoon in the country. The monsoon has not reached Kerala on its scheduled time. In such a situation, the Biperjoy storm has increased the tension even more. The Meteorological Department has informed that due to this, strong winds can occur in the coastal region of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa.

Why was the storm named Biparjoy?: Bangladesh has named this cyclone Biparjoy. Biperjoy means disaster. Bangladesh has named this cyclone because all the cyclones that occur in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are named after the countries of this region. This system is already decided that the country is going to name cyclones in turn. This process has been going on since 2004. Earlier, the storms passing through here were named Mocha, Bulbul and Katrina. The World Meteorological Organization has also accepted the name Biparjoy in 2020.

What is the process of naming cyclones?: In fact, naming these cyclones is being started on the basis of wind speed. When the wind is rotating at a speed of about 63 kilometers per hour, then such storms have been named tropical storms. At the same time, when the wind speed reaches 119 kilometers per hour, it is called tropical hurricane. Not only this, as the speed increases, the category of hurricanes also increases on a scale of 1-5.

Talking about the world, the first countries left around the Atlantic Sea have started naming cyclones. The US started keeping records of cyclones by naming them. People in the Caribbean islands once named cyclones after Catholic saints. During World War II , the US military started naming cyclones after women. But after some  time, questions were raised on  this, so from the year 1978, half of the cyclones were named after men.
