Mizoram is said to be a mountainous region. In February 1987, it became the 23rd state of India. It was also a district of Assam until it became a Union Territory in 1972. After going under British control in 1891, for some years the Lushai mountainous region of the north was under the control of Assam and half of the southern part of Bengal. In 1898, it was decided to merge the two to form a single district, named Lushai Hills District, and it also joined the administration of the Chief Commissioner of Assam. In 1972, Mizoram became a Union Territory after the North Eastern Region Reorganization Act came into force.

As a result of the historic agreement between the Government of India and the Mizo National Front in 1986, it was also granted full statehood on 20 February 1987. Being situated between Myanmar in the east and south and Bangladesh in the west, Mizoram has also become a strategically important state in the northeastern corner of India. Natural beauty is scattered in Mizoram and various shades of nature are also being seen in this area. This area is endowed with various species of animals and plants.

Let us tell you that even today there is no specific information about the origin of the word 'Mizo'. The word Mizoram in the local Mizo language means the land of the mountain dwellers. In the 19th century, the influence of British missionaries had spread here and at this time most of the Mizo people worshiped Christianity only. The Mizo language did not create any script of its own. The missionaries preferred the Mizo language and the Roman script for formal education. Gradually, the rate of education in Mizoram also started to see an upswing. At present it is 88.8 percent, which is second only to Kerala in the whole country. A lot of effort is also being made to come first in the field of Mizoram education.
