New Delhi: On Wednesday (April 10), State-run oil marketing companies kept the prices of petrol and diesel stagnant across the major cities. In national capital Delhi, a litre of petrol costs Rs 72.80 while diesel is retailing at Rs 66.11 a litre, no change compared with Tuesday's price. Worth mentioning here is that petrol prices fell by 5 paise per litre, while diesel prices remained stable across four major cities in the country on Tuesday.

In Metro cities, in Mumbai, citizens have to pay Rs 78.37 for a litre of petrol while diesel costs Rs 69.19 per litre, as per data available with Indian Oil Corp website. Similarly, in Kolkata, petrol and diesel are selling for Rs 74.82 a litre and Rs 67.85 per litre, no change in rates against yesterday’s prices. In Chennai, the prices of petrol and diesel are Rs 75.56 a litre and Rs 69.80 per litre respectively. In Noida also, petrol price remained stable at Rs 72.15 and diesel price at Rs 65.23. In Gurugram, petrol, diesel prices remained static at Rs 72.69 and Rs 65.33 respectively.

However, it is to be noted that so far this year, petrol prices raised by about Rs 4 per litre, while diesel rates went up by 5 a litre in major cities of the country. Global crude prices have risen about 7 per cent in the last one month, with Brent crude past 70/dollar mark, and this surge has raised India’s import bills. On Wednesday, in the international oil market, crude prices rose, backed by ongoing supply cuts by OPEC and US curbs against Iran and Venezuela. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD 70.83 per barrel, up 22 cents or 0.3 per cent from their last close.
