World Vegetarian Day is celebrated every year on 1 October. This day started in 1977. The purpose of this special day is to promote a vegetarian lifestyle and spread the message of kindness towards living beings. The number of non-vegetarian people may not be less, but the number of people adopting vegetarianism is increasing rapidly. Now people are not only becoming vegetarian, but many people are also becoming vegan from vegetarian, which means that they do not use any product obtained from animals.

Importance of World Vegetarian Day:  Started by the North American Vegetarian Society, this day aims to raise awareness about ethics, environment, and health. Along with this, more and more people are encouraged to adopt vegetarianism on this day.

Benefits of being a vegetarian

Heart health:  Vegetarians consume less saturated fat than nonvegetarians. This keeps the level of bad cholesterol (LDL) in their body low, which helps in keeping the heart healthy. Also, eating vegetarian foods also keeps blood pressure under control.

Helps in weight control:  Vegetarian foods are low in calories, which helps in maintaining weight. Whereas non-vegetarians are more likely to gain weight.

Digestive health:  Vegetarian food is easy to digest and contains a good amount of fiber. This helps the digestive system function properly and reduces problems like indigestion, acidity, and constipation.

Disadvantages of being a vegetarian:  Although there are many advantages of eating vegetarian, it is also important to pay attention to some disadvantages. Nowadays, there is a plethora of oily and junk foods available even for vegetarians, which can be harmful for health.

Nutrient deficiencies:  If vegetarians do not take the right kind of diet, they may lack essential nutrients like protein, vitamin B12, omega 3, and calcium. This can lead to a number of health problems.

Include green vegetables, seasonal fruits, milk and other dairy products, and different types of grains, nuts, and seeds in your diet. This way, you can keep your health better.
